Faith for All TimesWhat do the oldest public building in Oneida County and one of the county’s most vibrant Christian ministries of the 21st century have in common?
Our church building — today a landmark in the village square — was constructed in 1792 as the meeting house of the First Religious Society of Whitestown, the municipality of which New Hartford was then a part. Our founders were briefly a Congregational Society, but joined the Presbyterian Church in 1801.
Early ownership of the land on which our building stands can be traced to George Washington and George Clinton, who received it as a reward for service to their country. In about 1790 the property was acquired by Jedediah Sanger, who donated the site on which the church was built.
A Center of Worship, Fellowship and ServiceAs historic as the building might be, the essence of New Hartford Presbyterian Church is and always has been the body of Christian believers who gather within its walls.
Today we blend the traditional with the contemporary in a ministry that is powerful, relevant — and still growing.
- We worship and nurture our faith.
- We celebrate and enjoy fellowship.
- We reach out to others.
- We encourage and comfort one another.
- We laugh and sometimes we cry together.
Who are We?Our members come from all walks of life: men, women, children; families and individuals of all ages.
We live in communities across Central New York and have a variety of faith backgrounds. Some of us are lifelong Presbyterians, some had their roots in other denominations or branches of Christianity, and some are experiencing the Christian faith for the first time.
